5 Types of Hinge

Full overlay concealed hinge

A full overlay concealed hinge is the one most commonly used by kitchen manufacturers. This is mostly because of its ability to completely hide the cabinet door that is attached to. This type has a straight arm look, and it allows the cabinet door edge to be completely in line with the other edges of the cabinet. It can be fully adjustable with the use of just three little screws, which will adjust all of the angles and allow for the door frame to be concealed.

Half overlay concealed hinge

A half overlay concealed hinge is very similar to a full overlay since it allows the door to be mounted on either side of a center carcass panel. But, unlike the full overlay, this hinge has a bend in the arm, which allows the cabinet door edge to cover just half the side panel, with the other door being half exposed. This hinge is usually used in wardrobes but is often used in kitchens as well.

Inset concealed hinge

An inset concealed hinge is visually very different than both of these above. It has a large crank in the arm, which allows the cabinet door to be set inside. The cabinet frame shows the outer edge of the cabinet fully. This type of hinge can be also used with glass cabinet doors.

Blind corner base cabinet hinge

The blind corner base cabinet hinge is used when there’s no 90° cabinet end panel to fix to but rather in the inline fascia. A minimum distance of 70mm is required from the inside edge of this fascia to fix the mounting plate and hinge to.

Bi-fold corner hinge

A bi-fold corner hinge is usually used for double-door lazy susan corner cabinets. The first door is attached to the cabinet side panel with a 170° hinge and the second door is attached to the first with a bi-fold hinge. This type is a perfect solution for corner kitchen cabinets that are fitted with carousels.
